July 4, 2007

It's a lovely day and I am starting my first and only blog! After many years of doing other things - working and raising a daughter, working and riding my horse - I have time again for knitting. The daughter is grown up and the dressage horse retired to a lovely farm near Mt. Shasta in northern CA. I started with small projects and have finished the "Knit a Ribbed Scarf with a Crocheted Edging" by Ann Budd. This was a gift for my sister and knitted from Knit Picks baby alpaca in sunset. I love the scarf but omitted the final crocheted edge as it looked out of character with the lovely robust rib of the fabric. I need to finish the Cabled Pocket Shawl from Knit Picks and have signed up for a class on finishing techniques so I can learn how to join the 2 ends as invisibly as possible. The yarn came twice frogged out of sweaterdom and has many many ends to weave in! I couldn't give up on the yarn, Brown Sheep wool and mohair, because it has such a lovely feel. My next project is Rosedale from Knitty.com. I am using Silk Garden instead of Kureyon because it would be too heavy and woolly for the Bay Area otherwise. Anyone have experience with substituting these 2? Any comments or tips about the pattern? I know the yardage is different and bought a couple of extra balls. Also, note on the flowers. They came from Costco a week ago last Sunday and are now starting to fade. Best $8.99 I've spent in a long time!
